Programme Structure

Listening and Speaking

NZCEL Level 4 (Academic) will teach you the skills to plan and conduct the listening and reading IELTS tests. The speaking topics involve practicing strategies on how to improve delivery of presentations, build confidence, and deliver your speeches to your audience in a complacent way. Listening skills are developed in a more comprehensive setting to be able to comprehend English speakers in both formal and less formal context. 

Writing and Reading

After the completion of the NZCEL Level 4 (Academic) programme, you will be able to understand complex ideas in spoken texts or spoken interactions. You will be able to read and process complex transactional written texts for English Language purposes. You’ll also be able to develop inference skills in reading and writing assessments required to achive an academic score in IELTS exam. The writing modules will teach you how to process research information, and to write crafted texts. This will also redevelop skills on how to identify valid and authentic resources, plan, brainstorm and produce structured writing for specific purpose. These writing tasks in the NZCEL programme will mainly focus on writing research essays and academic reports for specific audience.

Entry Requirements

You should be at least 16 years of age on entry and have completed the high school or completed NZCEL (Level 3) or NZQA equivalent, if you are an International student.

Valid visa: Working holiday visa, tourist visa, student visa or resident visa are valid visas.

International students for whom English is not their first language must have a minimum IELTS (General or Academic) score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0 or NZQA approved equivalent or have passed NZCEL placement test at Tasman to secure a seat in our English Programmes.

Tasman now offers an 18 weeks specialised English course that allows students to get an equivalent 6.0 Academic IELTS band certification for further studies in New Zealand, especially for those students interested in pursuing a Level 6 or 7 qualification within the country.
Students do not have to wait to do the IELTS, PTE, or equivalent test anymore, because they now have the opportunity do it in a short time and get an English Certificate that lasts forever.

Firstly, if students haven’t done the IELTS tests before or haven’t got a score of 5.5, with no band score lower than 5.0, they can book a test at TIA, and do an in-house entry test up to three times for free.

Secondly, students will study NZCEL (Level 4) for 18 weeks along with some of our qualified and experienced English professional teachers, who will teach them the skills required to achieve the NZCEL certification.

Finally, graduated students will receive a NZCEL National Certificate issued by NZQA that equals to a 6.0 Academic IELTS score, which paves the way for further studies across New Zealand.
