Accommodation
a "Kiwi" Family
New Zealanders are typically friendly and kind and homestay families have a genuine interest in other cultures and people. Staying with a “Kiwi” family enables you to experience the New Zealand way of life and practice speaking English. Living in a homestay provides you with a comfortable and safe family environment and the opportunity to make lots of friends. Students who choose a homestay will have a bedroom with study facilities, eat with the family and be part of the family. Tasman do not arrange homestay families directly but use the company Hostfamilies NZ who have extensive experience in matching international students with good homestay families. Host families are carefully chosen for their desire to host overseas students and the quality of their rooms. Homestay families are checked by the police and homestay officers. How does it work?
- Homestay families will do their best as foster parents during your stay period in NZ.
- You are required to obey the “house rules” set by your homestay parents.
- Your meals are provided by the meal plan you chosen.
- Smoking or drinking alcohol is not permitted at your homestay unless permission is given
- If you are going to be late, please call your homestay.
- If sleeping over at a friend’s place, inform your homestay family of your whereabouts and provide a contact phone number.
- Students should give two weeks notice, before leaving their host family.
- If you need to leave your homestay family because of an emergency you must contact Tasman immediately.
