ICT Network Management

What is this subject about?

You will be able to analyse various types of network devices, media types and overall connectivity for smooth flow of information across an extensive area network.

We will teach you how to:

a) Demonstrate an understanding of the functional use of routers and switches.
b) Analyse how to select suitable components to match a network specification and associated applications.
c) Illustrate the operation of the protocols in the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) and TCP/IP models.
d) Analyse and evaluate data traffic flow across source and destination over a network using Cisco IOS routers.
e) Determine media types, cables and ports to connect Cisco devices and eventually the hosts.

You will be able to analyse configuration and overall working of switching technologies for network management.

We will teach you how to:

a) Analyse available technology and media access control method for Ethernet networks
b) Analyse enhanced switching technologies to assess network status using utilities such as ping, telnet and SSH.
c) Explain the separation of systems using VLANS and their configuration techniques.
d) Demonstrate trunking and Configuration PVSTP operation using switches

You will be able to demonstrate the IP addressing, subnetting and other critical requirements for IPV4/IPV6

We will teach you how to:

a) Demonstrate the understanding of the procedure and its necessity of private and public IP addresses for IPV4 and IPV6
b) Critically examine the suitable addressing scheme for IPv6 and IPv4 to satisfy the addressing requirements in a network.
c) Compare and contrast the technological requirements for running IPv6 in conjunction with IPv4

You will be able to configure routers for IP routing, performance assessment and troubleshooting purposes of a network.

We will teach you how to:

a) Demonstrate the boot process of Cisco IOS routers and depict the steps to manage Cisco IOS files.
b) Demonstrate CLI for router configuration for network connectivity.
c) Compare and contrast different methods for routing including key protocols
d) Design and verify inter VLAN routing (Router on a stick) and SVI interfaces, Explain OSPF (single area) and verify EIGRP (single AS).
e) Configure and verify operation status of a device interface, both serial and Ethernet, Identify and troubleshoot the common network problems.

You will be able to analyse the configuration of DHCP and Syslog, ACL and NAT in a network environment alongside key operational protocols.

We will teach you how to:

a) Demonstrate Configuration steps for DHCP (IOS Router) and Syslog on different network devices.
b) Develop a keen understanding of various types, features, and applications of Access Control Lists (ACL).
c) Analyse the basic operation, configuration and verification steps of Network Address Translation (NAT) for a given network environment as NTP a client.
d) Compare and contrast the network device security features and Switch Port Security features
e) Configure ACLs to filter network traffic and ACLs to limit telnet and SSH access to the router
f) depict the PPP and PPPoE connection between Cisco routers and Frame Relay concept on Cisco routers.
